Measurement of performance data on an indoor trainer is important. All the Tacx Smart trainers are measuring Speed, Cadence and Power. In order to have an accurate power measurement the trainer needs to be calibrated. This is done by a simple and quick spin down calibration process.
The spin down calibration process can be triggered from the Tacx Utility app. The application will guide you through all the steps.
What to do?
- When the arrow is pointing left from the green area the pressure between the trainer roll and the tyre is too low. Please tighten the roll against the tyre
- When the arrow is pointing in the green area the trainer setup is well adjusted
- When the arrow is pointing right from the green area the pressure between the trainer roll and the tyre is too high. Please loosen the roll against the tyre
Note: the calibration value of the trainer is stored within the trainer electronics, meaning that, unless the calibration value is overwritten by a follow-up calibration, this value is being used during every training
Note: Please make sure that the pressure of your tyre is between 7 and 8 bar (101 psi – 116 psi)
Why is a calibration required?
There are many factors (e.g. room temperature, tyre pressure, rolling resistance, etc.) influencing the power measurement. With a calibration all these factors are measured and calculated to a single calibration value. The value is being used as a coefficient to calculate the power input of the cyclist.
How often do I need to calibrate my trainer?
You only have to do the calibration process when your trainer setup is changed. The following factors are of influence:
- Tyre pressure
- Pressure of the trainer roll against the tyre
- Temperature of the environment
