This page will explain all relevant features that will have influence on your indoor cycling experience in terms of ride feel.
Dynamic inertia is developed to control the mass inertia (ride feel) as realistic as possible. In contrast to the mass inertia of a flywheel, Dynamic inertia compensates for weight, speed and angle of inclination. This ensures the most realistic and smooth ride feel. Other features that derive from Dynamic Inertia are:
- Road feel
- Descent simulation
Experience the vibrating sensation of riding on cobblestones, gravel and many other road surfaces. This immersive feature is unique to NEO technology and can be used with Tacx Films and Zwift. When you cross a cobbled section in the software, the trainer will vibrate according to your speed and the road condition of that section. This brings a whole new dimension into the indoor cycling environment. The following road patterns are available:
- Cobble stones
- Concrete plates
- Wooden boards
- Cattle grid
In which applications is Road feel available?
It is possible to experience Road feel in the following applications:
- Tacx Desktop app - Films
- Tacx Trainer software 4 - Virtual Reality & Films (T2058.09 and higher, T1957.36 and higher)
How can I demo this feature?
With the Tacx Utility app there is the possibility to demo these different road patterns. You can download the Tacx Utility app from the app store or from Google Play.
Will it damage my bike?
No, this feature will not damage your bike.
How can I switch of the Road feel feature?
In all the applications you can switch off this feature.
What should I do when Road feel isn't working?

- Please check with the Tacx Utility app if the latest firmware is installed on your device
- Please make sure that the Road feel feature is switched on within the application your are using.
At to the top of a hill or mountain there is always that exciting feeling of accelerating into a descent. Exactly that feeling is what this bike trainer give you. The NEO Smart accelerates in a descent. This feature will not be enabled when the bike trainer is not connected to an external power supply.
There are a couple of different workout types which could be selected for your training sessions. All bike trainers behave or respond different to these workout types. This section is written to help you understand what the differences are and what to expect. The following workout types are of importance:
- Slope - video - virtual reality - GPS
- ERG mode (power/FTP)
Slope, video, VR and GPS
All Tacx bike trainers are spec'd with a maximum incline value. This value is calculated with a body weight of 65 kg (143 lbs) in reference to the "strength" of the resistance unit when cycling with 10 km/h (6 mi/h). It is important to understand that when your body weight is higher compared to the 65 kg (143 lbs), the maximum incline the trainer is able to simulate will be lower.
ERG mode (power/FTP)
During a power based training the resistance unit tries to hold the desired power or resistance level set by the application being used. The power output created by the cyclist is measured and the resistance unit will adjust to match the desired power level. The time to change between power levels is influenced by the strength of the resistance unit, weight of the flywheel and changes in speed or cadence. With a heavy flywheel the resistance unit requires to be very powerful in order to respond quickly to changes in speed or cadence.
Note: The NEO Smart isn’t equipped with a flywheel, but with Dynamic Inertia, meaning that the response time of the resistance unit during a power based workout is almost instantaneously. Which makes the NEO the perfect training tool for ERG mode workouts.

The NEO Smart works like a generator, meaning that it doesn't require an external power source. It generates its own energy from your training efforts. However, when it is not externally powered the descent simulation features will not be enabled.
