This page will explain all the features that are of influence on the cycling experience, such as cycling smoothness, inertia and all extra features that comes with the trainer.
A trainer with a virtual flywheel isn’t equipped with a flywheel. For its inertia feeling (See explanation Virtual Speed) it is designed with a strong and powerful motor which, together with some smart programming of the electronics results in a “virtual flywheel”. This “virtual flywheel” is capable of adjusting its simulated inertia according to the riders weight, speed, incline and other factors existing during an outdoor experience. The use of a virtual flywheel results in a more realistic simulation of riding your bike outdoors. Besides, a virtual flywheel comes with some interesting perks:
- Downhill drive
Roadfeel is a feature only available on the T2800 NEO Smart. This unique feature enables the trainer to simulate road surface patterns like cobblestones, meaning that the trainer will actually vibrate as you cross a cobblestone section. This brings a complete new dimension to indoor cycling. The software will determine the intensity of the specific Road feel. Within this feature there are a few road patterns available:
- Cobble stones
- Concrete plates
- Wooden boards
- Cattle grid
In which application is this available?
- Tacx Trainer software 4 - Virtual Reality.

How can I demo this feature?
With the Tacx Utility app there is the possibility to experience the different road patterns. You can download the Tacx Utility app from the app store or the Google play store.

No, this feature will not damage your bike.

In all the applications you are able switch off this feature.
Help: if your roadfeel does not work:
- Check if your firmware is up to date
- Check if the Roadfeel function is switched off in the application
The downhill drive feature means that the resistance unit will speed up while you are cycling on a downhill slope. In this situation you can enjoy the convenience of cycling downhill, relaxing your muscles and prepare for the next climb. The speed of the trainer is maximized for safety reasons. Downhill drive only works when the NEO is powered on (with the poweradapter).

Performance in different simulation modes
In general there are a few simulation modes or different types of workouts as we call them. Every trainer responds or performs different in each of these workouts.
Slope, video, VR and GPS training
Each trainer is specified with a maximum slope. The maximum slope is calculated with a body weight of 75kg in reference to the strength of the resistance unit with a speed of 10km/h. When your body weight exceeds 75 kilograms, the maximum slope of the trainer may differ. The opposite happens in case you are lighter than 75 kilograms.

ERG training (power based training, Watt, FTP)
During a power based training the resistance unit tries to hold the desired power or resistance level set by the application being used. The power output created by the cyclist is measured and the resistance unit will adjust to match the desired power level. The time to change between power levels is influenced by the strength of the resistance unit, the weight of the flywheel and changes in speed or cadence. the heavier the flywheel is, the more power the resistance unit needs to make the adjustments.
Note: The T2800 NEO Smart isn’t equipped with a flywheel, but a Virtual flywheel, meaning that the response time of the resistance unit during a power based workout is almost instantaneously, makes it great for Erg training. Ineratia has been turned off

Plug in / Plug out technology
With the NEO you can choose to use a power cord or not. When the T2800 NEO Smart is powered up it will enable all its special features such as downhill drive and a better virtual flywheel. When it is not connected to the mains it will generate its own power and will still have all its functionality except for down
