The sound created while cycling on a wheel on trainer is caused by all the moving and rotating parts. The faster is goes, the more sound it creates. There are a few key factors that play a role in this.
Turning the Genius on
The first 5 seconds you hear some sound in the Genius brake. This is the alignment that is being done. The sound will disappear after 5 seconds.
Choice of tyre
The use of a trainer tyre reduces the sound level compared to an outside tyre. The trainer tyre is designed without a profile, meaning that it has a smooth surface. This smooth surface reduces the sounds production between tyre and roller.
Note: Our recommended tyre pressure is between 7 and 8 bar (110 psi – 116 psi)
Diameter of the roll
The bigger the diameter of the roll is, the less revolutions it makes, reducing the sound levels created by the trainer. The T2080 Genius Smart and the T2780 Bushido Smart both have a larger diameter roll compared to other Tacx trainers.
Casing of the trainer
Some trainers are equipped with a casing around the resistance unit, this in order reduce the sounds created.
In case of clicking sound on the Genius, it means that the metal roll has come loose from the softgel.
